Lučica is a small village/port with only 30 houses is protected as heritage area. Originally, Lučica was fisherman’s' port and buildings were used as storage for fishing equipment. Lučica is just one kilometer from the town of Lastovo. You can reach it by a nice road or – there is 400m long shortcut through forest.
Wealth of Underwater World. Thanks to the great amount of bio-planktons, the waters around the island of Lastovo are one of the fish richest areas of Adriatic Sea. The area is famous for colonies of brkatog jastoga, hlapovima, sovicama, škrpinama, gofovima, kernjama, zubacima, kantorima…You can also catch Blue fish here. Local residents witness that not so long ago “sredozemna medvjedica” could have been caught on the south end of the Island, in the close proximity to the cave “Medvjedine".
The Island of Lastovo and its waters were declared a nature park of exceptional beauty and well-preserved plant and animal diversity. Preservation of such pristine nature should be responsibility all of us: both the hosts and tourists. Unfortunately many people do not follow that logic. The Lastovo Islands Nature Park team confirmed that during 20 cleaning actions they executed in 2011, they collected more than 25 tons of garbage (Marine debris).
The greatest enemies of the nature are people – especially those careless and irresponsible. They can easily destroy and pollute huge amount of nature in no time. Unfortunately, even a pearls like islands of Lastovo and the waters around it are not immune to such inappropriate behaviors.
From the May/June 2011 issue of National Geographic Traveler. Author: Paul Kvinta
I've been warned that, like almost everyone living in Croatia’s Dalmatian Islands, Jure Kvinta suffers from pomalo, a condition said to be so insidious, so overwhelming, so unstoppable, that it could undermine my entire mission. That would be tragic. I’ve come all the way to Croatia to find Jure, to conduct business of the utmost importance with him. Jure is the lighthouse keeper on Lastovo Island, one of the most far-flung and isolated of the Dalmatians. By all accounts, Lastovo is an enchanting little outpost, a place of limestone peaks and hidden inlets with just 600 people living in a medieval village surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
The lighthouse itself is like something out of a fairy tale, I’m told, a majestic beacon perched on a 229-foot cliff overlooking the shimmering Adriatic. Jure’s father kept the lighthouse, as did his father before him. Admittedly, I’ve become fairly obsessed with the structure ever since seeing a photo of it online. There are 48 Croatian lights scattered across the Adriatic, all built in the 19th century, each stunning and inspiring in its own way. But only the one on Lastovo has a connection to my decidedly obscure, Slavic last name—Kvinta. Given that there aren’t that many Kvintas on the planet, my mission is simple: travel to Lastovo, meet Jure, determine if we’re kin, and claim possible bragging rights to having a fabulous European lighthouse in my family.
Hosts and tourists were singing together with Dalmatian Klapa Šufit from Split.
People through Dalmatia know about the beautiful sound of Klapa Šufit - especialy those who were lucky enought to attend the Fishermen party in the Lučica Bay, August the third. Beautiful songs, good vine and numerous local specialties, everything free of charge and spiced with warm hospitality of people living in Lučica were ingredients for a great party.
If you have been at the island of Lastovo during August 2009, you probably heard that ‘Bill Gates tried to escape from a restaurant without paying (not even a few bucks for tip), and hills around Portorus (Skrivena Luka) were covered by people in black’. That story has spread like wild-fire, therefore we checked what really happened.
Bill Gates, the ‘father of internet’, ‘owner of Facebook’ and one of the wealthiest men on the earth, was cruising around the Adriatic Sea during summer 2009. Everywhere he came it attracted a lot of media attention – except on the beautiful Island of Lastovo.
About the Building. Vila Fantela is an ancient stone house positioned in the old fisherman port – Lučica (diminutive of Luka - port). It is just 50 m away from the sea – in green vegetation; surrounded by tall trunks of pine tree and European Holly trees. Stone walls are over 40 cm thick. The building is completely modernized and equipped with all the tools you need for a joyful and carefree vacation.
More oko Sušca ima prozirnost i do 30 metara.
